It’s been a moment since I last wrote a Substack newsletter. I had so many plans for this platform, but life happened, and it was unexpected and unpredictable and at times very low, then sometimes a bit high and a bit in between, of course. 

Perhaps some other time I will write about those moments; the times I started to write, or tried so hard to want to write, and just couldn’t go on, and the causes and impacts of sheer, severe burnout, but not today. 

Today I’m very excited to announce something I have long been thinking about, to invite you over for a meal with me. And here it is, this December, join me for a breakfast feast from Iran, Italy and and in between.

You are invited to a festive morning banquet (I don’t like to use the word “brunch”, but yeah, it is a brunch) inspired by the recipes in my book Pomegranates & Artichokes, plus a few extra things.

Not only will you taste some of the breakfast recipes from Pomegranates & Artichokes, you will also get a signed copy of the book (in English or Italian), included in the price. An early Christmas present for you or a loved one.

WHEN

Choose a date between Saturday 9 December, or Sunday 10 December [UPDATE: Sunday December 10 is sold out.]

Breakfast is served from 10 am until lunch time.

What’s Served

• Sheermal Bread (a brioche bread with milk and saffron from Iran) 

• Lavash bread

• Fattah (toasted flatbread layered with a lemony, yogurt sauce with tahini, chickpeas and topped with pine nuts and fresh herbs, served as weekend breakfast in Syria) 

• Filo triangles stuffed with feta, drizzled with honey (from Turkey and Greece)

• Necci (chestnut pancakes from Tuscany), served with Ricotta and honey / salame and cheese

• An orange scented rice cake (Southern Italy)

• Date frittata (Iran)

• Soft/hard boiled eggs

Plus: Assorted jams, feta, walnuts, cream, honey, Labna (strained yogurt) with za’tar, cucumber, tomatoes, olives

Drinks: My grandmother’s bicoloured tea / coffee / milk / juice + bubbly

Includes all food and drink and a signed copy of my cookbook Pomegranates & Artichokes (or the Italian edition, Melongrani & Carciofi)

• Pane Sheermal (un pan brioche con latte e zafferano - Iran) 

• Pane Lavash

• Fattah (Un”’insalata” di pane tostato con strati di yogurt colato condito con limone e tahini, ceci, pinoli e erbe fresche, che viene servito in nord Syria sul tavolo della colazione del weekend.) 

• Triangolino di pasta filo ripieni di feta, con miele (dalla Turchia/Grecia)

• Necci (“pancake” toscani fatti dalla farina di castagne), serviti con ricotta e miele/ salame e formaggio.

• Torta di riso al profumo d’arancia (Sud Italia)

• Frittata dei datteri (Iran)

• L’uova alla coque/sodo

In più: confetture assortite, feta, noci, panna, miele, labna con za’tar, cetrioli, pomodori, olive.

Da bere: Il te bicolore di mia nonna, caffè, latte, succhi e prosecco
