It’s been a time, hasn’t it?
I have not loved this year so far; my health’s been clumsy (nothing serious, some old and new injuries), the world seems to be ever closer to political, financial and climatic apocalypse and my cooking mojo has been as elusive as ever. I had an idea for a recipe with sweetbreads (I’ll tell you why later), couldn’t find any, so I gave up, and right now I’m trying to force a marriage between panna cotta and oranges. We’ll see how it goes.
My astrologer says 2025 is going to be the year of new beginnings and given the scarse reason for hope, I’m ready to cling on any pseudo-scientific and purely fantastic source of joy. And cooking with my community and sharing food with a crowd is indeed one of my greatest sources of joy; it’s with people that my cooking mojo comes flying back to me. Getting my hands dirty in a kitchen full of people grounds me to where and who I am as cooking for feeding myself never does. Feeding each other nourishes us. Sometimes.
Which brings to the last events of 2024 that I’m hosting. I deliberately took it slowly this year after the event-packed year of publication. What’s more, this is how we kick off the festive season.

Iranian Cooking Class
This is my classic cooking class where we explore the basics of the food of Iran, saffron, (a lot of) herbs, rice and the magical tahdig (crust at the bottom) and much more.

Saturday December 7th
Class starts at 10 am sharp and usually ends after a very late lunch (3.30/4 pm)

WHAT WE COOK
We will cook a 5-6 course meal, starting from a little snack and ending with dessert that is accompanied by cardamom tea. The menu is always vegetarian and gluten-free friendly and can be easily adapted for vegans.

After the super successful double dates of last year, I’m inviting you again to join me for a breakfast from Iran to Turkey to Lebanon to Italy, inspired by the recipes in my book Pomegranates & Artichokes, (plus a few extra things).

Sheermal Bread (a brioche bread with milk and saffron from Iran)
Lavash bread
Fattah (toasted flatbread layered with a lemony, yogurt sauce with tahini, chickpeas and topped with pine nuts and fresh herbs, served as weekend breakfast in Syria)
Filo triangles stuffed with feta, drizzled with honey (from Turkey and Greece)
Necci (chestnut pancakes from Tuscany), served with Ricotta and honey / salame and cheese
An orange scented rice cake (Southern Italy)
Date frittata (Iran)
Soft/hard boiled eggs
Plus: Assorted jams, feta, walnuts, cream, honey, Labna (strained yogurt) with za’tar, cucumber, tomatoes, olives
Drinks: My grandmother’s bicoloured tea / coffee / milk / juice + bubbly

Corso di Cucina Iraniana
Questo è il mio classico corso di cucina dove l’obbiettivo è presentare le basi della cucina iraniana; lo zafferano, (tante) erbe, il riso e il magico tahdig (la crosta al fondo) e molto altro.

COSA CUCINIAMO
Prepareremo un circa 5-6 portate, cominciando da un piccolo spuntino e finendo con il dolce che sarà accompagnato dal tè al cardamomo. Il menù contiene sempre portate vegetariane e senza glutine e può essere adattato anche alla dieta vegana.

Dopo il successe delle doppie date dell’anno scorso vi invito ancora una volta per raggiungermi per colazione: un ricco e festivo banchetto ispirato dal mio libro Melograni e Carciofi, fatto dai piatti dall’Iran alla Turchia, al Libano, all’Italia e molti altri luoghi del medio oriente e del mediterraneo.
