Those green plums are very present in Georgian cuisine too. The soups and sauces that come out of it, and the fruit leather. I can totally understand you missing it. I feel the same way about real avocado.
I study Native American indian uses of plants and the sour taste of fruit, A sour taste we do not like, found also in fruits such as choke cherry (Prunus virginiana, commonly called bitter-berry, chokecherry, Virginia bird cherry, and western chokecherry) and Russet berry ( Shepherdia canadensis) known as Indian icecream, was very important in their diet. Food was medicine and no word for medicine existed in their language. Indians cooked their dry meet with berries always called pemmican. Ancient nurtures knew that the sour taste was important for health and is something we have lost. See choke cherry pudding as a staple of their diet. Anti cancer high in OPC.. apricot seed kernels are eaten by Hunza and also Chinese people through history. They contain the secret weapon for tumor eradication – amygdalin which contains Nitrilocide in pits of chokecherries or rose hips kill cancers. All sour!! Wow this is so fascinating! I didn't even know these varieties existed. I doubt I can ever find them in Italy but I'll have a look. Thanks for sharing.
I just bought a little house in Puglia near Castro so see you there. Ps I sent your article to my stepsons Iranian mother. Roya Temour Hunter who lives in london. I’m sure she will enjoy it. She taught me to make tadik and gorme sabse and my larder has barberries . I make a chilli jam with them and red jalapeños. I sent her your cookbook last year. I live in wyoming and study with John Mionczynski who speaks in the native memory project videos!! I hope you watch. I’m writing a cookbook called Spaghetti Western! Wish you could help!! Just got Amber Guiness’ cookbook in the mail with your Lovely photos!! I know her from painting at Arniano! XxC

Oh god, I'm drooling at the thought. Would love to visit and taste them.
It's called Tkemali. You'd probably love Chakapuli, it's a stewed green plum and lamb soup.
Drools 🤤
Lovely piece, dear.
I wonder if those plums are not the same that Georgians adore and make their famous sauce with. It would make sense.
Yes I think they're the same!
Really loved this so much
A pleasure
